Synopsis
Standing in for a sick colleague, renowned New York psychiatrist Sam Foster is confronted with disturbed art student Henry Letham. Seemingly inspired by his idol, a painter infamous for committing suicide on his 21th birthday, Henry announces he will shoot himself Saturday at midnight–the moment he turns 21. Foster, once having saved his suicidal girlfriend Lila, takes the threat seriously but fails to simply have Henry taken into custody. Instead, while trying to track his patient down, Sam is gradually drawn into the world of Henry’s obsessions.

Trivia
When Sam wakes up in the first scene, there are some of Henry’s paintings at the background.
Many extras in this film are showed doubled, even tripled in background. Many times you can see two or three people walking side by side wearing the same clothes and carrying the same things.
In an interview with MTV.com, director Marc Forster revealed the reason why Sam’s trousers are too short for his legs. It is because Henry’s view of Sam is when he is crouching down, and his trousers pull up when he does this.
When Sam leaves his apartment and Henry is waiting outside, as they walk downstairs the room they stop in front of to talk is number “21″. At the end of the movie when the camera is panning up away from the scene of the accident, the number on top of the ambulance is “2121″. They also live on the 21st floor; you can see the sign when Sam and Lyla discuss trust after he confronted her about not taking her medicine. This is in reference to Henry’s 21st birthday, the recurring theme in the movie.
Quotes
Sam Foster: What’s this?
Henry Letham: I burned myself.
Sam Foster: You burned yourself? Why?
Henry Letham: Practicing for hell.
Sam Foster: Why do you think you’re going to hell?
Henry Letham: Because of what I did. Because of what I’m gonna do.
Sam Foster: What are you going to do?
Henry Letham: [mimes a gun to his head]
Sam Foster: You’re going to try to kill yourself? And how serious should I take this threat?
Henry Letham: Saturday at midnight. It’s what I’m going to do.
Sam Foster: Okay, you’ve gotta know that everything just changed, if you talk to me about suicide I’m required to take certain actions.
Henry Letham: Wait, just deal with him, and we’ll talk about it next time.
Sam Foster: There’s a next time?
Henry Letham: Yeah. Yeah, we got three days.
Sam Foster: If this is a dream, the whole world is inside it.
Lila Culpepper: Tell me I’m good.
Sam Foster: You’re good.
Lila Culpepper: Tell me they’ll remember me.
Sam Foster: Who’s ‘they’?
Lila Culpepper: The world.
Sam Foster: Is that what you want? The world will remember you.
